Sorry I have been MIA lately, my internet really sucks... and I mean really. I'm surprised this is actually getting posted! [knock on wood].
The past two weeks have been quite eventful at work and away from it. Because I already write about work for class here, I'll just tell you about everything else... it's more fun anyway!
The guys I hang out with are really good guys, in order to get to know them in a relatively safe environment (which is/isn't, believe me... Quinn and I have had multiple... long... interesting... discussions...) I ate with them at the Galley, saw them at the gym, and went to Karaoke and Request Nights here on base. Last Saturday we headed to the Bodega Bay Dunes Beach, it was a blast! We (they) pitched a tent so we could escape from the wind every now and then, made the lunch of champions (pb&j with salsa and chips), and played like an hour and a half game of frisbee. Afterwords we enjoyed McDonald's, and despite being covered in sand and smelling like the beach, we headed to Snoopy's Home Ice Rink in Santa Rosa, CA. It felt so nice to skate again, I had no idea how much I missed it.
I joined the Bible study on base, we're going through "A Case for Christ." Really cool book written by a (prior) atheist journalist determined to disprove Jesus Christ. It's an awesome study, with great people, unfortunately they are all at least 10yrs older than me, so not much opportunity for hanging out there.
Today I was off work, because tomorrow I work from 0500-2200... whee! Anyway, I slept in until 8, then left for Sebastopol, CA around 9. I did the Art Walk on Florence Ave, which is really eclectic, modern, and cool. Then I walked down Main St. and got sucked into Miller's Candy Emporium and this really neat little store called Tannebam which featured old style wind up toys. I walked past Screamin' Mimi's cafe for any of you who read books- I've heard it is featured in many. I then had a nice little lunch at Burger King and headed to Salmon Creek State Beach in Bodega Bay, CA. I found a nice little spot and proceeded to pass out for like two hours, the sound of the waves put me to sleep NOT TO MENTION it was a nice sunny day! When I woke up I watched some guys skim boarding and read my Bible for an hour. I even wore shorts and a tank top *gasp* it was a whole 54* haha... much warmer than it has been. On my way back to the car I passed a little waterfall flowing onto the beach, I'm sure it's from all the rain we've been having but it was cool nonetheless. =)

Valentine's Day
I was woken up at 8am by my parents wishing me a Happy Valentine's Day! Then five minutes after I hung up with them, Quinn called to wish me the exact same thing. So this Valentine's Day Quinn and I are on the EXACT OPPOSITE sides of the country. I get to enjoy the Pacific Ocean, and he... the Chesapeake Bay. Someday we'll get to spend it together... someday. He sent me an absolutely beautiful card, a thoughtfully hand written letter, and a calendar that he personally made... not to mention a box of Dove Chocolate =) mmMmm. What a lucky girl I am.
In other news:
I went rock climbing today! It was COMPLETELY different than the Phoenix Rock Gym. The Vertex Climbing Center doesn't use a grigori locking system, instead... you simply utilize your ATC. Scary! I'm glad they still have an anchor, I would have flown off the ground when Tony fell since he weighs like 50lbs more than me. I can't imagine climbing with Phil like that yet.

Twisted Tummy.
At the current moment, it is 10:20pm on Tuesday night... I am tired. I am sore. I desire to be sleeping peacefully with the rain beating on my window. Unfortunately, my stomach will not allow this (I'll spare you the details). I really don't understand, I have stayed away from the dairy as much as possible. The only thing else I can think of that ever affects my stomach is nerves. What the heck do I have to be nervous about?
On a lighter note... maybe I will have to break my 22yrs of not owning an umbrella... the forecast for the next ten days: rain, light showers, am showers, rain, rain, rain..! There is nothing nicer than falling asleep to the rain, but nothing worse than waking up at 5:45am wanting to stay curled up in bed. Not to mention I'd give anything for a garage right now, it's always an adventure running from my barracks to the car, then from the car to the MWR office. I guess I better get used to it, apartments don't have garages.
Yesterday I met former Navy Captain Robert Deal... he works for the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Hawaii, yet lives in Breckenridge, CO. Don't ask... I'm still confused. We talked a lot about his life in the Navy- all the way from Annapolis to his marriage, very interesting! He gave me his business card for the resort he also works for in Colorado. Networking, networking =) I also got to eat lunch with him today and learned a bit more about what he's doing for the CG.
Funny story from last night... I fell asleep early, like really early, 9:30ish I believe. Light on, computer open, webcam still up (Quinn asleep on the other end- wow we're amazing!). Anyway, I eventually woke up hearing a whole bunch of guys talking really loud. I glanced at the clock it was around 11 (the club closes then, so naturally...they were a bit drunk). All of a sudden they got even louder, and didn't go inside. Next thing I know they're throwing rocks at all the windows! I felt like I was in a really bad love story... needless to say I had an "excellent" conversation through my window relaying the fact that whichever girl's attention they were trying to get was obviously ignoring them because they were entirely too loud and throwing rocks was ridiculous. Then one (sober?) guy introduced himself as David and preceeded to apologize for his "idiot" friends... yet still managed to ask if I could join them for a drink sometime this week. *rolling my eyes* Mind you, this was through my window, and I live on the 2nd floor... hilarious, I think so. At anyrate... the phone # for security is now on my fridge. I don't imagine it being a problem with the rain though, and thankfully they all leave Friday. Maybe there are advantages to having rotating neighbors.
I'm going to curl up in my favorite hoodie (Quinn's), with my favorite blanket (made by Ashley) and body pillow (from mom), and read... hopefully my stomach will calm down, and I can get some sleep.

The Northern California Life

The weekdays generally go:

The next picture reminds me of Luigi from the movie Cars.
Today I ate breakfast with Tony, we seem to have a similar schedule... so far we've worked out and had dinner with each other in the evenings. I invited him to go to the Chapel with me, but he ended up having duty (I'm not sure where his faith is... but I'll keep bringing it up). At Chapel today the keyboardist, Starla, came up to me after service and invited me to dinner with her family. The Franklin's are the nicest people! Jerry has been in the Coast Guard for 20+yrs, they have 3 children... Katie 8, Suzanna 14, and Buddy (Jerry Jr.) 17. Not only did we eat dinner, but we played Wii bowling, and then they took me to the movie on base. Bedtime Stories, which I had seen, but who cares... Bugsy is awesome! Starla is going to introduce me to Jay, he goes to Calvary Baptist Church off-base with some other Coasties, I guess it has a lot of people in their 20's attend. They seem to have basically adopted me, they've already invited me to go to Buddy's basketball game later this week and told me to stop by at anytime. God sure does have a way of putting people in your life... before dinner, we all held hands and Mr. Franklin said the blessing. Felt like home.

It's been an interesting experience so far. I have currently met with Mr. Streeter, Ms. Linnis, and Mr. Duval. I am allowed to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the Galley. It's interesting though because breakfast is 0630-0715, lunch 1130-1230, and dinner 1630-1730 if you're late you don't eat, if you don't go, you don't eat. It's kind of like being at summer camp, haha. I was even given my own office! In general I won't be working weekends, and if I do I will get corresponding days off Thurs/Fri or Mon/Tues. I will be participating in the Superbowl Party taking place in the Consolidated Club later on this afternoon.
The coming week sounds like it will be extremely long/busy. I will be meeting with the base CO (Commanding Officer), XO (Executive Officer) and CMC (Commanding Master Chief), aka: The Top Dogs. It will be very interesting, considering most students here will never meet them. I will also be sitting in meetings between the Command Officers and MWR Departments taking notes on how things are currently operated and desired changes.
