Alexandria, VA

So, since our time here is being cut drastically short, we're determined to visit someplace within day-trip distance as often as possible!

On the checklist for the weekend:

Alexandria, Va!
Saturday --- 9.4.10

This is the Torpedo Factory Art Center.... 3 full stories of ART! Almost all of the artists had "no photography" signs though, so no cool photos- sorry. Anyway... there are studios, classrooms, and an archaeological museum of Alexandria. Oh, of course... there are torpedoes! Being a former torpedo factory and all.
Standing in the Ramsay House Garden- The house was built in the early 18th century by William Ramsay a Scottish merchant who was also a founder of the city!
In front of the Ramsay House (which also serves as the Visitor's Center)
Most of the houses in Alexandria are simple row houses, parking on the street and door on the sidewalk. Quinn and I decided if we were to live in a city we would need to be rich so we could have a house like this, complete with front yard and carport!
I believe this is the court's clock tower.
Overlooking the National Harbor. The bridge in the background is actually a drawbridge- it allows the Navy Ships in/out of the DC Naval Yard.
"Life is Good" Store! Alexandria is all about dog owners! Every where you look stores have water bowls out for the pups. Some of the stores & restaurants even have "bone boxes" ...mailboxes full of doggie treats!
We ended the afternoon with a photo in front of the fountains at city hall!

It was a nice day-trip... we missed out on Christ's Church because there were THREE weddings taking place that day! The photo of us standing on the dock we actually had to compete with the wedding photographer for, haha. We also missed out on the Alexandria National Cemetery and Mount Vernon...so who knows- we may go back.

Storm sez,"Where's my doggie treat from the bone boxes?". Always nice to see the local history through your blog.

Love ya, Dad
